College in America Infographic

by Joshua Auriemma on January 15, 2010

Not quite law-related, but hey — we all went to college, right?  And this is a pretty nifty infographic.

Wait, I can make this law-related.  Berkeley has an Arguing with Judge Judy course?  Awesome.  That reminds me of a local judge who told me that his mother was a huge fan of the People’s Court.  She apparently would call him nightly, repeat the facts of the case, and ask him to rule.  If he ruled differently from Judge Wapner, he was clearly in the wrong.

Without further adieu, here’s the College in America infographic via Online Colleges and Universities (click to enlarge — you may have to click twice).

Quibble: The enumeration of popular majors says “Social Sciences (ex. History and Political Science).”

I think what it means is “For example.” But when I first read it, I was confused, because it looked too much like “excluding.”

@ouij, I didn’t see your point at first, but now I do. I’m with you on this one.

@Joshua Auriemma, My eye fell RIGHT on it, naturally, because I did History at undergrad. The graphic hits a bit close to home, as I had a spell of soul-crushing unemployment for a while–but there was also a fair amount of thesis-related burnout, plus associated self-doubt regarding my suitability for full-time academia.

So if I had to address myself to the graphic-maker, I’d say: There’s nothing wrong with being an Historian, say, and I’d gladly recommend the field to any aspiring undergraduate–but only after I made them understand that it is exceedingly difficult to make it a full-time gig unless you are both unusually dedicated and tremendously gifted.
