Help with Student Loans, Starring Shrinking Gremlins

Submitted by Laura Bergus on Friday, 12 June 2009No Comment

I like this new PSA campaign from the Project on Student Debt. The IBRinfo.org website is slick, it looks very non-governmental, and best of all there’s an animation explaining the Income-Based Repayment program. Did I mention the shrinking gremlins? Watch and learn:

[And while I was hoping for an interesting IP angle on the use of "Gremlins," Wikipedia informed me it's a generic term...]

Student loans are particularly scary for law students. After graduating, the average law student owes nearly $100,000 in total debt. Federal student loans are often the biggest chunk of this debt. When facing that kind of burden, the fact that law jobs are getting harder to find certainly doesn’t lower one’s stress level. Every little bit of help counts.

So, despite what the gremlin says, I believe the teen-actor voiceover and don’t think it’s a scam. The government assistance detailed in the video is effective July 1, 2009. Check out IBRinfo.org for details.
