This is one of the best justifications for Twitter that I've read. You summarized a lot of the reasons I love it so much! One of my profs would joke about Twitter a lot in class and at that point I was the only one out of 80 who even got the jokes; none of the rest of my section mates even knew what Twitter was. Now there's about 5 of us on Twitter and it's great...

Totally true on all accounts. I found this place just before I started school and preached to everyone else about all the great tips learned here. I have about 5-6 people in my class now tweeting (albeit, usually during class), but its sometimes like having a mini-online study group of information. If the web had existing when I did undergrad, things would have been much easier!

What I've also found it that many people don't "get" twitter, in the sense that it doesn't make sense to them. They expect the rammed-down-your-throat approach of MySpace and FaceBook and aren't able to grasp the concept of micro-blogging (let along macro-blogging). Most think its just another variant of the social networking site, and to a degree it is, but it has its place and purpose in the grander scheme of things.
