Greasemonkey, Meet Lawyers

We haven’t had a real update in a while because our final drafts for law review were due on Friday.  I assure you, however, that this post will make up for the lack of updates if you’re willing to be a little adventurous.

I am constantly assigned research tasks at work and I’m forced to poke through hundreds of cases on Lexis.  A good deal of the time, I’m just scrolling through search results reading overviews.  That’s where I got the idea to make a Greasemonkey script to poke through Lexis results and reprint them in a more aesthetically pleasing and accessible manner.

The problem?  Well, I didn’t know Greasemonkey.  No problem, I sent off a tweet to my twitter list and Matthew Sachs (one of my good friends from back home) volunteered to help me out.  The result?  This awesome script.  Matthew wrote most of the hard code (getting the actual values) while I prettied it up.  Before you decide whether or not you’d like to install it, please click on the above image to see whether you think it will be useful to you.

Warning:  this is only going to work on Firefox because Greasemonkey is a Firefox addon.

You can download Greasemonkey here.  Once you have it installed, you can install our script here.  That’s it!  Search Lexis as usual, and you should receive a popup that the script is running.  After it runs (it should be very quick) a new tab should have opened with the results.  You can disable the script by clicking on the monkey face in the lower right hand corner of your browser.  Be warned though, turning off Greasemonkey makes the monkey sad, and he pouts.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to post them here.  Also, please feel free to share with your classmates and co-workers!
