Fallout 3 Song List

by Joshua Auriemma on November 8, 2008

Law geeks, you should probably stop reading this now as it will likely be of no interest to you.  Apologies.

So this is where my true geekery comes out.  Fallout 3 was released recently, which is the long-awaited sequel to — you guessed — Fallout and Fallout 2.  It’s a sandbox RPG, and it’s a lot of fun.

The plot has you running around in a post-apocalyptic world, where there is one uncensored radio station, which most people tend to leave on all the time.  The problem is that it seems only a few records from the 40′s survived the nuke, and the same songs are played over and over (and over and over).  So they tend to get stuck in your brain.

Looking at forums, I noticed that no one has really compiled a list of songs and/or lyrics, so I collected them around the web and wrote some for the songs that I couldn’t find.

[edit: As people have pointed out, this list does not include all of the songs created specifically for the video game.  If someone wants to get me a copy of those songs, I'll be happy to transcribe them.  As kotaku noted, I'm avoiding studying.]

Mighty, Mighty Man by Roy Brown

I’m a mighty, mighty man, I’m young and I’m in my prime
I’m a mighty, mighty man, I’m young and I’m in my prime
I don’t [something] I’m ready for a gold ol’ time.

Yes, I’m a real young man, a brand new twenty-five
Oh, I’m a real young man, a brand new twenty-five
Well, I’m willing, I’m able, I’m [something]

Well, I’m six-feet-tall, I ain’t no hand-me-down
Yes, I’m six-feet-tall, and I ain’t no hand me down
Well, I got a gal in town who calls me Good Rockin’ Brown

Oh, I’m a single man, I really don’t need a wife
I’m a single man, and I really don’t need a wife
Yes, I’m gonna [something], oh what a wonderful life.

Oh, I’m a mighty man, I’m young and I’m in my prime
Yes, a mighty, mighty man, I’m young and I’m in my prime
Well, when you want me, holler and I’ll be there on time.

Oh, [something] for the mighty one
Yes, [something] for the mighty one

Yeah, I’ll stay on the job, until the job is done.

Let’s Go Sunning

Let’s go sunning
It’s so good for you
Let’s go sunning
Beneath the sky of blue
Feel as free and happy as the day you’re born

Let’s go native
Sun your cares away
Be creative
Learn to live and play
Pretty flowers need the sun
This applies to every one

Life’s worth living
When nature’s giving
Happiness to everyone
So let’s go sunning

Let’s go native
Sun your cares away
Be creative
Learn to live and play

Pretty flowers need the sun
This applies to everyone
Life’s worth living
When nature’s giving
Happiness to everyone
So let’s go sunning

Anything Goes by Cole Porter

Times have changed,
And we’ve often rewound the clock,
Since the Puritans got a shock,
When they landed on Plymouth Rock.
If today,
Any shock they should try to stem,
‘Stead of landing on Plymouth Rock,
Plymouth Rock would land on them.

In olden days a glimpse of stocking
Was looked on as something shocking,
But now, God knows,
Anything Goes.

Good authors too who once knew better words,
Now only use four letter words
Writing prose, Anything Goes.

The world has gone mad today
And good’s bad today,
And black’s white today,
And day’s night today,
When most guys today
That women prize today
Are just silly gigolos
And though I’m not a great romancer
I know that I’m bound to answer
When you propose,
Anything goes

When grandmama whose age is eighty
In night clubs is getting matey with gigolo’s,
Anything Goes.

When mothers pack and leave poor father
Because they decide they’d rather be tennis pros,
Anything Goes.

If driving fast cars you like,
If low bars you like,
If old hymns you like,
If bare limbs you like,
If Mae West you like
Or me undressed you like,
Why, nobody will oppose!
When every night,
The set that’s smart
Is intruding in nudist parties in studios,
Anything Goes.

The world has gone mad today
And good’s bad today,
And black’s white today,
And day’s night today,
When most guys today
That women prize today
Are just silly gigolos
And though I’m not a great romancer
I know that I’m bound to answer
When you propose,
Anything goes

If saying your prayers you like,
If green pears you like
If old chairs you like,
If back stairs you like,
If love affairs you like
With young bears you like,
Why nobody will oppose!

And though I’m not a great romancer
And though I’m not a great romancer
I know that I’m bound to answer
When you propose,
Anything goes…
Anything goes!

I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire by The Ink Spots

I don’t want to set the world on fire
I just want to start a flame in your heart
In my heart I have but one desire
And that one is you no other will do

I’ve lost all ambition for wordly acclaim
I just want to be the one you’d love
And with your admission that you’d feel the same
I’ll have reach the goal I’m dreaming of believe me
I don’t want to set the world on fire
I just want to start a flame in your heart

(I’ve lost all ambition for wordly acclaim)
I just want to be the one you’d love
(And with your admission could you’d feel the same)
I’ll have reach the goal I’m dreaming of believe me
I don’t want to set the world on fire
I just want to start a flame in your heart

Way Back Home by Bob Crosby

The roads are the dustiest, The winds are the gustiest
The gates are the rustiest, The pies are the crustiest
The songs the lustiest, The friends the trustiest
Way back home
(Back home)

The trees are the sappiest, The days are the nappiest
The dogs are the yappiest, The kids are the scrappiest
the jokes the snappiest, the folks the happiest
Way back home

Don’t know why I left the homestead
I really must confess
I’m a weary exile
Singing my song of lonliness

The grass is the springiest, The bees are the stingiest
The birds are the wingiest, The bells are the ringiest
(the hearts) the hearts the singiest
(the arms) the arms the clingiest
Way back home

(What about the sun) The sun’s the blaziest
(And the fields) The field’s the daziest
(And the cows) The cow’s the graziest
(And the help) The help’s the laziest
The boys, Are the wittiest
The girls, Are the prettiest
Way back home

The pigs are the snootiest, The owls are the hootiest
The plant’s the fruitiest, The stars the shootiest
The grins the funniest, The smiles the sunniest
Way back home

Don’t know why I left the homestead
I really must confess
I’m a weary exile
Singing my song of lonliness

The food is the spreadiest, The wine is the headiest
The pals are the readiest, The gals are the steadiest
The love the livliest, The life the lovliest
Way back, way back, way back, home
(No place like home)
Home sweet home

Butcher Pete (Part 1) by Roy Brown

Hey everybody, did the news get around
About a guy named Butcher Pete
Oh, Pete just flew into this town
And he’s choppin’ up all the women’s meat

[Chorus]
He’s hackin’ and wackin’ and smackin’
He’s hackin’ and wackin’ and smackin’
He’s hackin’ and wackin’ and smackin’
He just hacks, wacks, choppin’ that meat

Butcher Pete’s got a long sharp knife
He starts choppin’ and don’t know when to stop
All you fellows gotta watch your wifes
‘Cause Pete don’t care who’s meat he chops

[Chorus]

Ever since Peter flew into town
He’s been havin’ a ball
Just cuttin’ and choppin’ for miles around
Single women, married women, old maids and all

[Chorus]

Wakes up in the morning, half past five
Chops from sunrise to sunset
I don’t see how he stays alive
Meat’s gonna be the death of ole Pete, yeah

[Chorus]

The police put Pete in jail
Yes, he finally met his faith
But when they came to pay his bail
They found him choppin’ up his cell mate

[Chorus]

That Butcher Pete is a crazy man
Tries to chop down the wind and the rain
Just hacks on anything he can get
Say, turn this record over, you ain’t heard nothing yet

A Wonderful Guy by Tex Beneke

I’m as corny as Kansas in August,
I’m as normal as blueberry pie.
No more a smart little girl with no heart,
I have found me a wonderful guy!

I am in a conventional dither,
With a conventional star in my eye.
And you will note there’s a lump in my throat
When I speak of that wonderful guy!

I’m as trite and as gay as a daisy in May,
A cliché comin’ true!
I’m bromidic and bright
As a moon-happy night
Pourin’ light on the dew!

I’m as corny as Kansas in August,
High as a flag on the Fourth of July!
If you’ll excuse an expression I use,
I’m in love, I’m in love,
I’m in love, I’m in love,
I’m in love with a wonderful guy!

No more a smart little girl with no heart,
I have found me a wonderful guy!
I’m as trite and as gay as a daisy in May,
A cliché comin’ true!
I’m bromidic and bright
As a moon-happy night
Pourin’ light on the dew!

I’m as corny as Kansas in August,
High as a flag on the Fourth of July!
If you’ll excuse an expression I use,
I’m in love, I’m in love,
I’m in love, I’m in love,
I’m in love with a wonderful guy!

Crazy He Calls Me by Billie Holiday

I say I’ll move the mountains
And I’ll move the mountains
If he wants them out of the way
Crazy, he calls me
Sure I’m crazy
Crazy in love, I’d say

I say I’ll go through fire
And I’ll go through fire
As he wants it, so it shall be
Crazy, he calls me
Sure I’m crazy
Crazy in love, you see

Like the wind that shakes the bough
He moves me with a smile
The difficult I’ll do right now
The impossible will take a little while

I say I’ll care forever
And I mean forever
If I have to hold up the sky
Crazy, he calls me
Sure I’m crazy
Crazy in love am I

Civilization by Danny Kaye with the Andrews Sisters

Each morning a missionary advertise with neon sign
He tells the native population that civilization is fine
And three educated savages holler from a bongo tree
That civilization is a thing for me to see

So bongo, bongo, bongo I don’t want to leave the congo
Oh no no no no no
Bingle, bangle, bungle I’m so happy in the jungle I refuse to go
Don’t want no bright lights, false teeth, doorbells, landlords
I make it clear
That no matter how they coax him
I’ll stay right here

I looked through a magazine the missionary’s wife concealed
(Magazine? What happens?)
I see how people who are civilized bang you with automobiles
(You know you can get hurt that way Daniel)
At the movies they have to pay many coconuts to see
(What do they see Danny?)
Uncivilized pictures that the newsreels take of me

So bongo, bongo, bong he don’t want to leave the congo
Oh no no no no no
Bingle, bangle, bungle he’s so happy in the jungle he refuse to go
Don’t want no penthouse, bathtub, streetcars, taxis
Noise in my ear
So no matter how they coax him
I’ll stay right here

They hurry like savages to get aboard an iron train
And though it’s smoky and crowded they’re too civilized to complain
When they’ve got two weeks vacation they hurry to vacation grounds
(What do they do Danny)
They swim and they fish but that’s what I do all year round

So bongo, bongo, bongo I don’t want to leave the congo
Oh no no no no no
Bingle, bangle, bungle I’m so happy in the jungle I refuse to go
Don’t want no jailhouse, shotguns, fish hooks, golf clubs
I’ve got my spear
So no matter how they coax him
I’ll stay right here

They have things like the atom bomb
So I think I’ll stay where I “om”
Civilization, I’ll stay right here

Easy Living by Billie Holiday

Living for you is easy living
It’s easy to live when you’re in love
And I’m so in love
There is nothing in life but you

I never regret the years that I’m giving
They’re easy to give when you’re in love
I’m happy to do whatever I do for you

For you maybe I’m a fool
But it’s fun
People say you rule me with one wave of your hand
Darling, it’s grand
They just don’t understand

Living for you is easy living
It’s easy to live when you’re in love
And I’m so in love
There’s nothing in life but you

Happy Times by Bob Crosby & The Bobcats

Wish on the moon
And look for the gold in a rainbow
And you’ll find a happy time

You’ll hear a tune
That lives in the heart of a bluebird
And you’ll find a happy time

Though things may look very dark
Your dream is not in vein
For when do you find the rainbow?
Only after rain

So wish on the moon
And someday it may be tomorrow
You will suddenly hear chimes
And you’ll have your happy, happy time

So wish on the moon
And someday it may be tomorrow
You will suddenly hear chimes
And you’ll have your happy, happy time.

Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall by The Ink Spots

Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is falling in mine
Into each heart some tears must fall
But some day the sun will shine

Some folks can lose the blues in their hearts
But when I think of you another shower starts
Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is falling in mine

Into each life some rain must fall
But too much, too much is fallin’ in mine
Into each heart some tears must fall
But some day the sun will shine

Some folks can lose the blues in their heart
But when I think of you another shower starts
Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is fallin’ in mine

[spoken:]
Into each and every life some rain has got to fall
But too much of that stuff is fallin’ into mine
And into each heart some tears got to fall
And I know that someday that sun is bound to shine

Some folks can lose the blues in their heart
But when I think of you another shower starts
Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is fallin’ in mine

Maybe by The Ink Spots

Maybe you’ll think of me
When you are all alone

Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue, then what will you do?

Maybe you’ll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near
Then maybe you’ll ask me to come back again
And maybe I’ll say maybe.

Maybe you’ll think of me
When you are all alone

Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue, then what will I do?

Maybe, you’ll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near
Then maybe you’ll ask me to come back again

And maybe I’ll say maybe.

[edit:  12/24/08 -- I just wanted to say thanks to those of you that have submitted corrections.  Now that I'm on vacation, I'll devote some time to verifying them and post correct lyrics in the near future.  Cheers.]

Nice job man… nice.

Upidstupid January 31, 2009 at 4:04 pm

@Pitchfork, I don’t know if anyone else has hit on this, but the purely instrumental peices (Boogie, Fox, etc.) I am fairly certain were commissioned for FO3, I could be wrong though :)

Alexander February 1, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Found it. If you open the ‘sounds’ file in your ‘data’ folder with the recently released G.E.C.K., you can copy the songs right from the game. Also, you just lost The Game.

Lux February 2, 2009 at 11:35 am

Just thought you might like a few corrections to Butcher Pete. Very minor but in the interest of being complete I’ll send them along. I’ve been playing this song live for at least ten years. I skimmed through the comments and didn’t see it so appologies if it’s there. Thanks for posting all of these by the way. And by the way, at the end of the song where he said “turn the record over” it’s because there is a part 2 that was on the flip side of the 78 when this was originally released. It’s WAY more risque, but fun.

…Wakes up in the morning, half past five
Chops from sunrise to sunset
I don’t see how he stays alive
Meat’s gonna be the death of ole Pete YET

[Chorus]

The police put Pete in jail
Yes, he finally met his FATE
But when they came to pay his bail
They found him choppin’ up his cell mate

Thank you for the song list, man. This game has me skipping meals and singing along.

vaultmessiah February 4, 2009 at 4:21 pm

Fallout 3…oog. I haven’t played a game so much since at least Half Life, and possibly since Doom. I work in security/facilities and sit behind a locked door in front of another locked door. (It’s a great job for creativity) For three solid weeks of January I played Fallout on my laptop. It is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Now if I could just get my karma balanced.

Anyways, they’re totally right with not realizing how many songs Three Dog plays. I wanted the lyrics for The Ink Spots songs today, and this page gave me more than I was looking for. Thanks so much for this information! :)

Stacy February 4, 2009 at 5:22 pm

Awesome list!!! Are you going to do this for the expansion as well?

Hearing the lyrics “and someday it may be tomorrow” while exploring the bombed-out, radioactive wasteland . . . makes me feel a certain way.

Thanks for compiling all the lyrics.

Milo277 February 18, 2009 at 10:56 pm

@Milo277, Oh yeah, I find that listening to the music is a lot more authentic if you turn off all of the bass and tremble tuners and turn it to mono. Thanks Again!

Dude, can I add to this?

David March 6, 2009 at 10:13 am

Could you list the instrumentals as well? Oe of them is my absolute favourite song on the soundtrack (a really upbeat swing track) and I’d love to have it to listen to when I’m driving around.

Steve March 8, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Colud I get this link to please? htis is by far the best game sound track ever!!!

FireCrow March 8, 2009 at 8:36 pm

hey thanks for the list..i’ve been trying to find those songs ever since i played the game..this helped alot..thanks

Des March 11, 2009 at 9:03 pm

FYI for you all:

Any of the game songs can be extracted from the game itself. You simply need a pogram to open BSA files, such as Fallout Mod Manager : http://timeslip.chorrol.com/fomm.html

Install it then navigate to your Fallout 3 Data folder the path should be along these lines: C:\*\Fallout3\Data , where the * folder you installed it too.

Open the sound file located in the data folder. Choose to sort by filename on the lower right.

All songs used on the radion will be tagged with this:
song/radio/liscenced

Simply highlight the song you wish to extract and choose extact and pick a location to save it.

Have fun!

Just so you know, the words for “mighty mighty man,” the last three lines;

Oh, [something] for the mighty one
Yes, [something] for the mighty one

Yeah, I’ll stay on the job, until the job is done.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh, when there’s work to do, send for the mighty one
Yes, when there’s work to do, you better send for the mighty one
Yeah, I’ll stay on the job until the job is done.
Mary March 18, 2009 at 7:21 pm
Oops…somebody already said that…
